Frequently Asked Questions For Moving to San Miguel de Allende
I just bought a brand-new Viking range that we want in our new home in San Miguel de Allende—can I bring it down safely?
New appliances and electronics can be tricky! Mexican law says you can only import used (owned at least six months) appliances and electronics, so if you plan to move anything that is new.., be sure to uncrate it or un-box it and just blanket-wrap it. I’ve even known clients who smeared a little grease on top of a new range to pass the “used-appliance” test. It’s always a gamble that you might be required to pay a substantial duty, so be aware that you can buy almost every type of appliance here in Mexico that is available in the U.S. Even Sub-Zero, which is very rarely found in Mexico, can be acquired from a Mexico City dealer.
