Us locals are thrilled to know that we’re not the only ones who love the lifestyle here! The reason we’ve earned that ranking five times by each magazine is… because we offer Mexico’s largest English-language social and cultural infrastructure here in San Miguel de Allende. I joke with my clients that we’re like summer camp for adults! First of all, we’re a very artistic community—like Sante Fe or Austin or New Orleans—and therefore there are regular and year-round classes in every artistic aspect, from watercolor or oil painting, encaustic art, pottery throwing, weaving, wood carving, writing, film-making, cooking classes, photography, languages…you name it, someone offers a class here! Of course the dining scene—we have over 650 restaurants in our little town of 170,000 residents—also boosts that ranking. And the architecture, history and culture of our 480-year-old UNESCO World Heritage Site also helps. We’re like the Florence of Mexico, but only a two-hour flight from the closest U.S. airport.
