FAQ
One of the joys of dining out in San Miguel is that you actually feel like you’re in Mexico, not Miami Beach. While in Cabo the waiter will walk up and say… “Hi, I’m Jose, I’ll be your waiter tonight…,” here your waiter approaches you in Spanish, if they realize you’re struggling with the language, they’ll switch to English. Many of the restaurants here have bilingual menus but many also have English-specific menus—if so, ask for a Spanish menu too so you can compare the two and practice your Spanish language skills a bit! Tip according to your heart, but 15% is considered a healthy tip here, locals often tip less. Remember that service may not be as prompt as you might be accustomed to—the pace of life is slower here—and you’ll always need to ask for the check, a waiter will never bring it until asked. INSIDER’S TIP: gracing a table of Mexican diners with the phrase “Buen Provecho!” as you pass their table will bring joy to those diners, the locals light up like a Christmas tree hearing a gringo family share such a blessing. It’s a bit like saying “Bon Appétit” but with a bit deeper meaning.
