Frequently Asked Questions For Buying a Home in San Miguel de Allende
We won’t live in San Miguel full time—do we still need a local bank account here?
While it’s possible to not have a Mexican bank account, it is highly recommended to have, at the least, a small “petty cash” account that you can name your property manager as a co-signer, allowing them to set up an automatic payment for utilities, withdraw cash to pay staff (maid & gardener), and gain access for emergency repairs.
Any account under $10,000 USD does not need to be reported to the U.S. authorities. However, all property managers also have the ability to accept wire transfers to their managed account, or PayPal payments to pay for the home expenses, and then the property manager simply maintains a ledger of your deposits and payments.
