Casa Mexicana
This spectacular home has spacious rooms with open beam ceilings and fireplaces, as well as cantera details preserved from the original colonial structure, allowing this magnificent property to offer unique character as well as modern conveniences. Three terraces at various levels invite alfresco dining and relaxing, under shady loggias. The uppermost terrace provides an amazing vista of the Centro, mountains, and lake.
The house is entered via a centuries-old arched cantera doorway, guarded from above by a statue of San Miguel, the patron of the town. A natural stone fountain serenades the entryway, across from an arched opening that provides a glimpse of the Escheresque stairway to the upper levels.
The spacious living room is graced by a fireplace and open beamed 12 ft. ceilings. A cantera arch dating from the original construction transitions into the dining room where an antique mesquite mesa sits 8 people comfortably.
The well-equipped kitchen adjoins the breakfast room, which has the original hearth area and a sunlit office with Wi-Fi and internet. An arched terrace outside the breakfast room invites you to dine alfresco, sheltered by the imaginative boveda (vaulted ceiling) and shady trees.
Two colorful king suites are located on either side of the living room, a 3rd king suite opening into a loggia is located on the second level, and a 4th king suite with a private terrace awaits above.
The Master Bedroom is large and spacious, with a cupola skylight and chiminea perfect for romantic nights. The Master Bath has a Jacuzzi tub surrounded by natural stone emerging through the walls, and a spectacular stained-glass partition separating the tub from the large, well-lit central area of the bathroom. The design is unique, created in harmony with the natural beauty surrounding the casa. There is a separate shower area as well.
The second main floor suite is also quite large and has a chiminea as well as a private arched entrance from the front patio. This suite has a beautifully tiled bathroom with a sunken tub, graced by a mural on the shower wall.
Ascending the dramatic stairs, you arrive on the largest terrace, with comfortable conversation areas, surrounded by colorful arches & sheltered by a tiled roof and skylights. A beautifully crafted boveda (vaulted ceiling) creates an attractive alcove, perfect for dining. This level is superbly positioned for watching the beautiful birds that visit our trees. A covered outdoor kitchen with sink, gas stovetop and a gas grill, refrigerator, and microwave complements the terraza.
Another artistic master suite with large windows and skylights is at this level, opening to the terraza and treetops. This master bath has an exquisite waterfall mural in the double shower.
The 4th master suite is graced by a private terrace and views of the Centro, as well as a unique tiled mural in the shower. This suite has complete privacy and is favored by honeymooners.
Soaring above the treetops, the uppermost terraza beckons with stunning vistas of scarlet sunsets, sparkling fireworks, and moonlit Mexico. Illuminated cathedrals in the Centro are framed by majestic mountains beyond the lake. Another shady and pleasant loggia accents this level.
A 5th bedroom with bath at the lowest level of the property can be used as staff quarters or an extra sleeping area. There is a large bodega (storage area) on this level as well.
Located in a quiet privada in downtown San Miguel, this unique property is truly a jewel.
